Requesting a Special Education Evaluation
If you are concerned that your school-age child is developing or learning differently, you should first speak with your child's teacher. They may refer the matter to the Intervention and Referral Services Committee at your child’s school.
You also have the right to request a Child Study Team evaluation to consider your child’s eligibility for special education and related services. All requests for evaluations must be submitted in writing.
Parent(s)/guardian(s) of school-aged children should submit the written request to the Director of Special Services, Dana Carsillo.
You can send the request via email to dcarsillo@longhill.org or mail it to:
Office of Special Services ATTN:
Dana Carsillo 91 Northfield Road Millington, NJ 07946
In your written request, please include:
- Your child’s date of birth.
- A summary of your concerns.
- Your full name and contact information.
- Any documents you would like the District to consider.
The Evaluation Process
After submitting a written request for an evaluation, a meeting will be arranged with you to discuss your concerns and for the team to determine if an evaluation of your child is warranted.
If an evaluation is warranted and conducted, you will be invited to participate in another meeting to discuss the findings. This meeting will address whether the findings support your child’s eligibility for special education and related services. If your child is eligible, a plan to address their unique needs will be developed. Your written consent is required before any services would begin.
