INCLUSIVE PRESCHOOL PROGRAM FOR 2009-2010

School District to Offer Program for 3 and 4 year olds at Gillette School

Limited enrollment – Applications due January 16, 2009

The Long Hill Township School District will again be offering an inclusive preschool for general education and special education students in the 2009-2010 school year, according to Fraida Yavelberg, Director of Special Services.

The program was launched during the 2008-2009 school year and will continue to be housed at the K-1 Gillette School.  The program is designed to serve the needs of both special education and general education preschool students for 2 ½ hours each morning or afternoon, five days per week.

Enrollment is open to students who will be three or four years old by October 1, 2009.  General education students, who are accepted into the program, must be toilet trained.  An annual tuition fee of $2,500. per general education student will be charged.  Tuition is payable monthly, one month in advance.

In describing the program, Yavelberg said, “The state wants all districts to try and integrate general education students into the programs we provide for special education students.  We are looking to enroll a maximum of seven general education preschool children in this inclusive preschool.  During our first year of program operation we have been pleased with the interaction of the students and the benefits of the program for all of the students who are enrolled.”
