HAPPY FEBRUARY!

 

Please note the following: 

*A big THANK YOU to all of the parents who made International Day such a success.  The children had a wonderful time touring the "globe", and it's all thanks to you!

*Book reports are due on March 1, 2012!

*Your child should be reading for at least 20 minutes every night!

*Your child should practice their math facts daily!

*Please make sure your child studies the spelling list from the previous week, as I "retest" 4 or 5 words from that list to make spelling sentences each week!

*3H is PEANUT FREE!! Please do not send any snacks or birthday treats with peanut products in them! Peanut products are allowed only in the lunchroom. 

*Students must pass 100 multiplication facts in 5 minutes by the end of the third marking period. Study those facts every day!  (Those who have not yet passed addition and subtraction, will continue that first.)

*Also, for the third marking period, your child will be required to pass 4 accelerated reader tests with a 60% or better.

*Lunch is 12:15- 12:45 and recess is 12:55 - 1:25 every day.

Brief Bio: I have been a teacher here at Millington School since 2001.  I taught 2nd grade for 9 years, and  now am excited to be teaching 3rd grade!   Previously,  I taught 2nd and 3rd grade for four years in California.  I am looking forward to a wonderful year!

Expectations: I expect all students to work hard, listen carefully, and do their best!

Daily Homework:  We will have math and spelling every night.  We could have some cursive practice from time to time too!  Also, each child should read for at least 20 minutes every night!

Spelling homework schedule is as follows:

(Spelling could change if there is a short week.  Please check your child's homework journal on short weeks!)

            Monday - #1-20 3x each.

            Tuesday - #1-10 Triangles.

                Wednesday- #11-20 Triangles.

   Thursday – study for spelling test.

   Friday – no homework.

For the week of February 6th:

Math-

We will:

*Identify and classify lines, line segments, classify angles, polygons, triangles, and quadrilaterals.

Language Arts-

*Story: The Man Who Invented Basketball.

*Conventions: Singular & plural pronouns.

*Spelling: Irregular plurals.

*Skills: cause & effect, making generalizations, drawing conclusions, main idea, author's purpose, and context clues.

Social Studies:

We will:

*Recognize different types of art, music, and  sports from other cultures.

*Discuss myths, fables, and storytelling as a way of sharing cultures.

Science:

We will: 

*Review chapter 10 together.  A chapter 10 test is scheduled for Wednesday, February 8th.
