Brief Bio: I have been a 2nd grade teacher at Millington school since 2001. Prior to working in Long Hill I worked in Elizabeth as a 2nd grade teacher. I currently have my masters in Early Childhood Education and advanced curriculum. I am also a freelance / published writer for The Mailbox Magazine, a publication for teachers.

To reach me: I can be reached via e-mail: sholzinger @ longhill.org (this is the best way to reach me)

I can also be reached by phone 647-2312 x 2023 (please try to call before or after school)

You can also send me a note via your child's backpack or in their assignment pad.

Expectations: My expectations change as my children grow and develop. I have high expectations for myself and I will always do my best to keep growing both professionally and personally. I expect that my students try their best and that they will have fun in my class while they develope a love for learning.

Daily Homework: MATH - we will have math homework daily (Monday - Thursday). Please check your child's homework folder to find the daily math homework.

SPELLING - Spelling homework will be daily (Monday - Thursday) and there will be a spelling test every Friday (unless otherwise noted). Students can choose their spelling activity from the list of 28 appropriate spelling activities that will be given out weekly. Please hand in the spelling homework form EVERY DAY. Please send in any written work as completed (not all activities can be handed in)

The list of weekly spelling words can be found on the 2nd grade homepage. The words are listed by story. We will go in order. Every 5th week there will be a review week and I will be sending home a spelling list that is not listed on this site. These words will be review words from the previous 5 weeks and will consist of the words that were most misspelled as a class.

D.I.R.T - (Daily independent reading time) DIRT is designed to encourage independent reading on a daily basis. Please read every day and log your reading time on the DIRT forms. Your total reading time should be 50 minutes for the week. DIRT forms will be given out every Monday (or the first day of the school week) and should be returned, filled out, on the following Monday.

CALENDAR OF HOME ACTIVITIES - Looking for a little more to do at home? The calendar of home activities is an optional homework assignment. The instructions and the monthly calendars are located as links to the left of the screen.
