Expectations:  To make sure your child learns new and exciting things in a warm, friendly & fun environment.

Daily Homework:  Math will be given Monday - Thursday (check your child's folder).  Spelling will be given Monday - Thursday (check your child's folder).  A spelling test will be given every Friday.  The spelling list can be found on the school website also.  During review week in reading, the students will not get their regular homework (appx. every 5 weeks).  Math will stay the same, but check assignment books for different assignments.  There may be additional science or social studies homework... always check your child's assignment book.

Dear Parents,

HAPPY NEW  YEAR!

Hope you had a great holiday!   Here are some areas we are working on...

Math - we just finished up working on solid shapes.  We are now learning addition with regrouping.

Reading - we have read many fun stories and are learning about characters, settings and the main idea.  We have been doing accelerated readers and are getting lots of tickets on our reading chart.  Please keep track of your minutes every month, so you can get a free pizza and tickets towards a prize.

Writing -  we will be learning how to write biographies, fantasy stories and letters.  The stories the students have written are so much fun to read and are hanging up in our room and the hallway.  We recently wrote a letter and mailed it to a special person we know.

Social Studies - we are learning about "Our Past".  We will be learning how the United States became a free country - in fact we will be presenting a play called, "Discovering Our Past" to you, sometime in March.  I will be sending home information and dates within the next couple of weeks.  I can't think of a better way to learn about history than to act it out.

Science - we will be learning about the different environments in our world.

Yes, we have been very busy and are now looking forward to the play!

Sincerely,

Lyn Schneider
