Fifth Grade

 

 

The average ten year old tends to have a positive approach to life.  They are becoming more mature and are developing their communication skills.  Your child will need to take full responsibility of their homework.  They will be expected to use an assignment pad and form good study habits and note-taking skills.  They must juggle extra curricular activities with academic work.  They are taught to make a schedule and to plan ahead using good time management skills.

 

In the beginning of the year…

  • Your child tends to be obedient, good natured, and fun.
  • Your child will seem to have a surprising scope of interests.
  • Your child will find TV and video games very important.
  • Your child will want to increase their independence.
  • Your child is becoming more dependable and may be able to take on more responsibility.
  • Your child is improving his/her self concept and acceptance of others.
  • Your child should be able to form good relationships with teachers and counselors.

By mid year…

  • Your child will improve his/her listening and responding skills.
  • Your child will increase their problem-solving abilities.
  • Your child will begin to undergo maturational changes.
  • Your child will gain awareness of peer and adult expectations.
