Rebecca Hoy; Speech Language Specialist

I am thrilled to be at Gillette school this year.  I am working part time with students in the KIT program.  My carreer as a Speech Pathologist spans many years.  I have an undergraduate degree from Miami University of Ohio and a Master's degree from Bowling Green State University.  In addition, I have training in sign language and I received certification as a LD/BD teacher in the 1980s (although I have not kept that certification current). I have worked with both adults and children and I have worked in hospitals, clinics, and schools.  My love is working with preschoolers and early elementary students and I enjoy the public school setting very much.  While improving communication skills is the focus of my job, I am passionate about trying to instill a positive self concept in all of my students.  I strive to keep current in the field of Speech Pathology by attending seminars, talking to colleagues, and reading journals.

Being the parent of two children (one grown and one nearly grown), I realize the value of good communication between school and home.  I welcome parents' questions and comments and try to keep parents informed as to what we are achieving in speech class.  Home practice is a VERY important factor in successful speech and language remediation.  If students are having difficulty with home practice exercises, please let me know!  I will be glad to make necessary adjustments.  My email address is rhoy@longhill.org.  While I am in the district three days a week, I check my email from home at least every other day, so I will return your email promptly.
