Mrs. Michelle Wycko, SKIP, Gillette School

Welcome: Hi! My name is Michelle Wycko and this is my eleventh year teaching a pre-school class for children with and without special needs.  This is my tenth year teaching the preschool class at Gillette School.  Pre-school is just such a fun age!  The children are extremely eager to come to school each day and it shows!  In our pre-school class, learning is done using a very hands-on, multi-sensory approach.  It is also individualized.  We focus on learning our readiness skills to increase academic knowledge.  Learning is also done through play and social interactions with friends.  Play is very important at this precious age.  Children need to learn how to communicate with one another and this begins with play.

A little bit about our preschool program:  Our preschool program has a mixture of typically developing children and children identified as having special needs.  If you are interested in having your child attend our program, please contact Dr. Lori Jones, Principal of Gillette School.  If you have any questions about our program, please contact either myself or Dr. Lori Jones.  We would be happy to share our program with you.

A little bit about myself:I have an elementary education degree and a special education degree from Seton Hall University.  I am currently in graduate school, working towards earning my early childhood certification as well.  When I am not in school, I am spending time with my family.  I have a husband, a 5 year old daughter, and a 2 year old son.

To reach me: You can reach me in numerous ways.  My classroom phone number is 908-647-2313 extension 1010 and my email is Mwycko at (@) longhill.org.  For those who have a communication book with me, you can always write a note to me in the book.  I check my phone and email messages in the mornings, sometimes mid-day between classes, and after school.  I encourage you to write me a note or send me an email if there is something important that I need to know about your child, such as he or she did not have a good nights sleep.

Expectations: It is really important that your child gets a good nights sleep and eats a healthy breakfast or lunch before coming to school.  Children perform best when they are well-rested and have full tummies.

Daily Homework:

Please help your child to pick out a "Show and Tell" item for each Wednesday.  You can refer to the monthly calendar for the description of what to bring.

Also, there will be a very short homework assignment given each Thursday.  This homework is to help your child develop a routine of showing their families what they are learning in school, while practicing skills being learned in the classroom.  All homework will be given on Thursdays.  It is asked that it be returned to school on Fridays.
