The 2008-2009 School Year has passed so quickly and we already gearing up for September.

A change for kindergarten times has been recently approved. 

Advantages:

  • This change will enable the kindergarten teacher to remain with the class during each session, as the morning and afternoon sessions do not run back-to-back.  Previously, a recess aide was neeeded to cover the class in order for the kindergarten teacher to have lunch. 
  • The increase in "teacher time" will result in an increase in instructional time. 
  • Snack time for students will be earlier in the day
  • Snack time will be 15 minutes (previously 30 minutes)
  • parents of afternoon session students will have a "drop off" time - similar to morning session students.  This will allow parents to use the drop off line, instead of having to park and walk students in
  • The transition time between sessions is eliminated - students will not have wait in the gym or in the hall for their bus, or for their class to start.  Instead, time will be in the classroom, increasing instructional time
  • Time for instruction for AM students and PM students will be equal

 

The process of class placement for the school year 2009 - 2010. will continue throughtout the summer.  As we  look ahead to next year, please understand that the needs and learning styles of each student is carefully considered.  Class composition consists of many factors - class size, gender, and special needs.  It is impossible to honor requests for specific teachers.  If you have concerns about your child that may seriously impact learning, please do not hesitate to share that information with your child's teacher.

A letter designating class placement will be mailed in August.

Gillette School continues to stress reading - read every day, - read books, read newspapers, read magazines, read signs - just keep reading!

9/8     First Day of School For Grade 1,  4-hour session (9:00 - 1:25 PM)

9/9     First Day of School for KIT, SKIP, Kindergarten

                                    AM Session: 9:00 - 11:45

                                    PM Session 12:30 - 3:15

9/28          School Closed - Holiday

10/12      4-Hour Seesion (Teacher In-Service)

10/30    Halloween Parades
