Superintendent of Schools
Dr. Rene T. Rovtar

As a graduate of the Long Hill Township Schools and a former member of the Long Hill Board of Education, I am delighted to return "home" to serve as Superintendent of Schools for the Long Hill Township School District.  I am proud to join a district with such an excellent reputation.  I am looking forward to working with the board of education members, administrators, faculty, support staff, parents and our students to provide an outstanding education for the children of Long Hill Township.

I began my career in education as a French teacher at the middle school and high school levels. I spent more than a decade serving as a local district school business administrator for several districts in Union, Somerset, and Passaic counties. In 1993, I joined the New Jersey Department of Education as Morris County School Business Administrator. In July 1997, I was named Morris County Superintendent of Schools by the New Jersey State Board of Education, a position I held until December 2003.  I served as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the Madison School District from January 2004 through July 2005.  Most recently I was the Superintendent of Schools for the Butler School District.

In 1993, the International Association of School Business Officials International selected me as a recipient of the Eagle Service Award. The Eagle Service Award is presented annually to honor school business administrators who exemplify outstanding service to the community, school district, and the profession of school business management. I also received an Educational Program Excellence Award from the Montclair State University Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa. In 2000, I received the Educational Leadership Award from the Northeastern Coalition of Educational Leaders. I also received the 2005 Educational Leadership Award from the College of Education and Human Services at Montclair State University.  I have spoken at numerous conferences on the state and national level on various topics including decision making and the establishment of local educational foundations.

From 1981 to 1984, I served as an elected member of the Long Hill Township Board of Education and also served on the Board of Directors for the Educational Services Commission of Morris County. From 1997 through 2003, I served as a member of the Board of Education for the Morris County Vocational School District and was a member of the Board of Trustees for the County College of Morris.

I have also been involved in many community activities. I have served as a lector for St. James Church in Basking Ridge for 28 years. I also served as a national officer for Alpha Delta Pi Sorority from 1987 to 1998.

Married to my high school sweetheart, my husband and I are the parents of two adult children.
